Toddler Time 2-21-18

Today, I once again strayed from my regular hello routine, and sang "This is the Way We Wave Hello" a capella instead of "Hello Friends."

I use totally different lyrics, but this video will give you an idea of the tune:

Here are the lyrics we use:

This is the way we wave hello,
Wave hello, wave hello.
This is the way we wave hello,
Hello, hello, hello.

Repeat with clap, tap (stomping feet), and then close it out with another chorus of wave.

Since the theme today was loosely based on food, our felt story was all about pizza.
To the tune of B-I-N-G-O, we sang:
I know a treat that's good to eat
and pizza is it's name-o.
P-I-Z-Z-A, P-I-Z-Z-A, P-I-Z-Z-A,
and pizza is it's name-o.

First, we practiced spelling the word pizza as I put the pieces on the board. We sang the song once with all five letters. After each verse, I "ate" one of the pieces of pizza, and we sang the song again with a clap in the place of that letter. At the end, I put all five slices back up on the board and we sang it with all five letters again.

Next we did two directed movement songs in a row: "Arms Up" and "One, Two Hands."

Our story today was The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear by Don and Audrey Wood. This book has always been one of my favorites. Let's face it, you can't go wrong with Don and Audrey Wood. And, we have the big book version in our library so I used that one today for a little extra novelty.

Our final movement songs today were "Milkshake" by the amazing Laurie Berkner, and "Peek-a-Boo."

Our goodbye today was "This is the Way We Wave Goodbye," exactly like the hello song. I like doing it this way in Toddler Time, because their little brains thrive on repetition. Then we did bubbles (listen to the music here) and said goodbye until next week.
