In order to become a librarian, most systems require a Master's degree in Library and Information Science. This is a tidbit I wasn't aware of until long talks about career paths with my college librarian. Before that, I'd never really considered getting anything higher than an undergrad degree. When I got serious about become a librarian, I applied to San Jose State University's MLIS program and was accepted in 2014. Because the program takes place completely online, many of the teachers encourage us to create websites and blogs as assignments. I consider these three to be my best work from grad school.
Graduate School E-Portfolio
To graduate with my MLIS, I completed a complete portfolio online. I worked on it during my final semester in school, the Spring 2017 semester, before graduating in May 2017. My portfolio includes all the best work I turned in during my time in grad school. If you like the programs and ideas I share on this blog, you might also enjoy browsing my e-portfolio to read the research papers and watch the presentations I worked on alone and in groups during my time at SJSU.
Mini Young Adult Collection
The aim of this assignment was to stock the shelves of my hypothetical young adult library with what I believe to be the best materials. I take an in-depth look at 35 books, audiobooks, and movies that I believe to be especially great for the young adult audience, according to a formula provided by my professor. I might be prouder of this project than I am of my portfolio; it took countless hours of insanely hard (and sometimes tedious) work, and I'm so happy with how it turned out! I basically show it off any chance I get, and often consider updating it yearly as new great YA content is published, so enjoy.
Storytelling Study: Myth
This assignment was for a storytelling class. We were asked to choose a type of storytelling and research the roots of that particular art form. I chose mythology, and reported on the history of myth from Paleolithic Era verbal storytelling to modern YouTube videos. This project also includes a large section on comparable mythology, examining the flood myth across four different prominent cultures.
